STATE ELECTION 2010
Earlier this year Autism Victoria invited interested members to join in the development of a position paper to be presented to all State politicians as part of the election campaign which will be held in November this year.
As a result of the invitation AV members have spent many weeks of consultation and a number of late nights to develop the attached position paper titled ‘Whole of Life: A More Effective Support System for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders’ .
We now need your help to encourage your local State Government member to support change and fund increased services. To help you (and Autism Victoria) we have created a campaign pack for everyone to use.

Position Paper
Whole of Life: A more effective support system for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The position paper which has been developed by a working party of interested Autism Victoria members. This paper has been distributed to all Victorian State Politicians.
Contacting your local members and other relevant politicians
We encourage you to contact your local members and arrange to meet with them. All current Members of Parliament have received a copy of the position paper. It would be helpful if you could advise us at ceo@autismvictoria.org.au if you are going to visit a particular MP as we want to make sure all MPs in Victoria receive at least one visit.

Click here for questions to ask your local MP and a feedback form to report your findings
Please find above a list of questions to ask your MP. The document also contains a feedback form. After your meeting, please complete the feedback form and return it to us so we can post it to our website (the feedback will contain no identifiers). This will help other members who have perhaps not been able to visit the same politician to gain an insight into their position regarding support for individuals with ASDs.

Nomination form to speak to the Media
The plan at this stage is to forward the position paper to all print, radio and TV media in Victoria with the contact details of Autism Victoria. When and if the media contact Autism Victoria they will be directed to the Autism Victoria spokesperson who will be able to answer all the broad questions and the technical details contained in the position paper.
Local media are always keen to add local flavour to their stories and often want to also interview a person who lives within the catchment area of the particular media outlet and it is for this reason that we seek your interest in being part of the media campaign. If and when the media ask for local stories, Autism Victoria would like to be able to provide a range of names and addresses for the media to contact.
