ASD Research Forum registration is open

The program for the 2009 ASD Research Forum to be held on November 10th has been finalised, and registrations are now open. The Registration Form is available from Autism Victoria's website (under the Research Tab). Full program details will be available soon.

Makaton Workshop

Autism Victoria is now taking expressions of interest for upcoming Makaton Workshops.

Makaton Key Word Sign and Gesture has been shown to be an effective form of communication for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It provides concrete visual cues to accompany speech, promotes and maintains eye contact, reduces frustration by allowing the person to express their needs and promotes the use of language while speech is developing. 

However, if the benefits of Makaton for both receptive and expressive language are to be realised, it is important for communication partners to know and use these signs. This fun and practical workshop, held over two evenings, will provide participants an opportunity to learn a basic vocabulary of interactive signs that you can start to use immediately!
